Makena was born and raised in San Diego, California, where she grew up playing a variety of sports and developed a passion for an active lifestyle. She especially enjoyed surfing, which sparked her interest in movement and the important role it plays in helping people stay active and do the things they love.
Makena earned her Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Pre-Physical Therapy from San Diego State University before completing her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences. During her final clinical rotation, she had the opportunity to train at Rock and Armor Physical Therapy & Sports Performance, where she quickly fell in love with the clinic’s supportive environment, strong team culture, and passion for patient care. She was excited to return to Rock and Armor and begin her career with a team that shares her commitment to helping patients reach their goals. Makena is passionate about building relationships with her patients and providing individualized care to help them regain strength, mobility, and confidence. She enjoys working with patients to help them return to the activities and lifestyle they love.
Outside of the clinic, Makena enjoys working out, hiking with her dogs, camping, spending time with her fiancé, and cooking. She especially enjoys smoking meat on their smoker and trying new recipes.
